Calves killed without stunning at Tasmanian Quality Meats


Our recent investigation shows that calves at TQM are frequently killed without any form of stunning, due to them being stuck upside down in the restraint or workers just completely failing to stun them before they were tipped out into the kill room ????


Watching back the footage from our hidden cameras, we saw dozens of calves, who had their throats slit while fully conscious, suffering in agony for minutes as they slowly and painfully bled out.


We decided to count how many calves were killed while conscious in the six days we had hidden cameras installed.


In total we saw:


27 calves who were NOT STUNNED AT ALL prior to sticking.
27 Calves who REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS prior to sticking, due to ineffective stunning.


Just one calf not being stunned makes TQM illegal under national legislation
