Probe into alleged illegal Victorian abattoir
VICTORIAN authorities are probing allegations of illegal livestock slaughter in South Gippsland.
It comes after Western Victoria state Animal Justice MP Andy Meddick complained about what he alleged was an "illegal slaughterhouse" at Koo-wee-rup.
Mr Meddick, who wants the operation closed down, asked PrimeSafe to investigate after undercover footage allegedly showed sheep being slaughtered without stunning.
It also showed workers spitting on animals and sheep trying to escape, including with their heads partly removed, Mr Meddick alleged.
