Fisheries Research & Development Corporation (FRDC)

  • The National body charged with planning, funding and managing Research, Development and Extension for the fishing industry, delivering against the Australian Governments' priorities, and pursues research, development & extension for industry and community incentives (FRDC Standards Development Policy, 2015)
  • Deals with government, industry & research partners around Australia
  • Accredited by SDAC (Standards Development and Accreditation Committee) to develop Australian Standards for seafood industry (FRDC, seafoodstandards.com.au, 2014)
  • 'is a co-funded partnership between its two stakeholders, the Australian Government and the fishing industry.' (frdc.com.au)
  • formed as a statutory corporation on 2nd July 1991, under the provisions of the Primary Industries Research and Development Act 1989 (the PIRD Act 1989) and is responsible to the Minister for Agriculture. (frdc.com.au)

 

 

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)

  • Australian Government statutory authority responsible for the management of Australian Government 'fishery' resources (australia.gov.au)
  • national regulator for all domestic commercial vessel surveys, crew qualifications and vessel operations (amsa.gov.au)
  • Manages fisheries within the 200 nautical mile 'Australian fishing zone' (AFZ)
